Is a bag a form of art? This project showcases the questions that have arisen over the years of creating bags. The Complexity, Simplicity and Brilliance of Fractal Creation Motifs behind the FRACTAL 2023 series utilize this “Leather Collage & Stich” technique and express the fractal structure of nature: snow crystals, leaves and the branches housing them. Paste-stitching and collaging centimeter sized diamond shapes communicates the delicate carryings of colors, shades and their transitioning gradations. Selecting colors for a singular leather piece is easy. But in the fractal structure of reoccurring formations a single choice bears the power to control the overall expression. Consciously or randomly alternating regular arrangements create complex and varied expressions. The centrifugal spread of the gradation of color signifies “Birth”. In color-arranging and aligning 6 centric diamonds, the geometrical pattern allows for an outward spread towards eternity "birthing” a limitless array of expression. The fractal brilliance of creation is the strength behind nature’s diversity. Diversity compensates for our shortcomings preserving each of our species. Expressing my work through fractal structures, I celebrate nature's ability to control formation and arrangement - the power that lies within us all.
